- You may alter, and optionally save, GL's default screen color settings.
- Note also, there is a SNOW ELIMINATOR routine (see Caution below!).
-
- Press the F7 key from the main menu. A popout window appears. Press the
- spacebar a couple of times, and you will see a question mark surrounded by
- arrow symbols -- up, down, left, right. Try all combinations, using the
- numeric keypad arrows.
-
- The effect of your changes is immediate (within the box), and immediate and
- permanent (for this session) when you exit by pressing Esc.
-
- You may press the F10 key whenever this small window is active, to see what
- your options are. The F1, F2, F9, F10 and Esc keys are all color command keys.
- They select color foreground/background, blink and intensity.
-
- You press the Esc key (as usual) when you are done. You will be asked if
- you want to save the screen colors. GL stores default screen colors in the
- user information file, if you tell it to.

-
- Monochrome vs. CGA
- ------------------
- The popout shows a less complete, but appropriate, range of selections
- if you are using a MONOCHROME adapter instead of a CGA or EGA adapter. Color
- users can choose a totally blank screen: Not all combinations are equally
- felicitous. These are matters of personal taste.

- Snow Elimination
- ----------------
- If you have an IBM Color Graphics Adapter, you may experience "snow" on your
- screens. You will have the opportunity to turn on a "snow elimination"
- switch just before the question about saving your color choices comes up.
-
- ** Caution **
- -------------
- IF YOU DO NOT HAVE SNOW, DO NOT TURN ON SNOW ELIMINATION. Unless your
- hardware is absolutely compatible with the IBM CGA card, bugs and all, you may
- hang your system by turning on the snow eliminator.
-
- Technical detail: Snow elimination works by READING port 03DA until the
- raster scan bit indicates screen RAM update is ok. The port is NEVER written
- to.
-
- By default, GL's snow elimination toggle is OFF. There is no effect if you
- have a monochrome adapter, and the question is not asked.
